Phil Hulebak - The Artist

Born in 1951 in Fargo, North Dakota he moved to New Mexico when he was three. As the years unfolded he began to explore the mountains, rivers, vistas and the multi-cultural society this land of enchantment has to offer.

He found peace drawing and painting.

He attended the University of New Mexico in the early 70’s concentrating his efforts in the fine arts. He has taken workshops in Taos, the Scottsdale Artist School and Casper College in Wyoming. He continues taking workshops from artists of interest.

He found his calling early by painting landscapes. He enjoys the serenity of being on location capturing the moment in plein air. Michael Lynch, Kevin McPherson and Scott Christensen were his most influential teachers. He enjoys working with local colors and values that give a painting accurate validity not often found from photographs.

Phil continues turning over new ideas and finds infinite possibilities that pour out of this beautiful world.

Artist Statement

Lots of practice, perseverance and focus are essential to becoming a good painter. The joy of watching other artists helps to raise the bar of my own work. The drive to have my own unique voice in the landscape genre is a never ending challenge. Quickly laying in paint during a sunrise or sunset, finding balance and harmony with mother nature offers me the most satisfaction and joy.

As Winston Churchill said, "You will never get to the end of the journey. But this, so far from discouraging, only adds to the joy and glory of the climb."
